NIcobar islands experience an earthquake of 6.0 magnitude

A tremor estimating 6.0 on the Richter scale hit the Nicobar Islands district on 17 January, National Center for Seismology (NCS) said.

There was no tidal wave alert issued as ocean levels around the Andaman Nicobar archipelago demonstrated no significant ascent, said INCOIS Director SPS Shenoi.

The seismic tremor hit the district at 8:43 am and its epicenter was Nicobar Islands area. There were no prompt reports of death toll or harm to property, authorities said.
